My mom's one comment about my location sharing changed everything

She said "you know that app tells everyone where you sleep at night, right?" back in March and it hit me hard. I had Life360 on for my whole family group, all 8 of us, and never thought about how my exact address showed up to my cousin who I barely talk to. I turned it off that same afternoon and switched to just texting my wife when I'm heading home. Has anyone else had a family member call out a privacy thing you never even considered?

Happens to so many people, honestly. My sister called me out for the same thing a couple years ago, said our aunt could see my nightly routine down to what time I took the dog out. That was the nudge I needed to check every single app permission, not just the family tracker ones. Social media apps were worse, they had my location set to always allow without me ever realizing it. Good rule I use now is if the app doesn't need my location to work, it gets the "while using" setting at most, or just off completely. And honestly, telling one or two people where you are by text is way more personal and way less creepy than letting a whole group watch your dot move around town all day.

The "while using" setting should be everyone's default.
