My neighbor's kid asked me why I have tape over my laptop camera

I was working on my porch in Denver last Tuesday when my neighbor's ten year old came over. He pointed at the black tape on my webcam and just said, 'That's weird, my teacher says our cameras help us learn.' It hit me that for him, being watched by a device is just normal, even good. I tried to explain my side but it felt like we were from different planets. Has anyone else had a simple moment that showed a huge gap in how people see privacy?

Feel that generational gap hard.

My buddy tried to explain a rotary phone to his niece last week. She just stared at the dial and asked why you couldn't text on it. He had to show her a video of how it worked, and she still didn't get why anyone would use one. That's the exact feeling you're talking about, @taylorc50. The gap isn't just about tech, it's a whole different way of seeing the world. He said it made him feel ancient, like a museum piece.

@taylorc50, how do you explain privacy to someone who sees cameras as normal?
