My neighbor's smart doorbell recorded a private conversation on my porch and now I'm not sure what to think.

I was talking to my sister on my front steps yesterday. We were having a pretty personal chat about some family stuff. Later, she texted me a link to a video clip. My neighbor's security camera had posted an 'activity alert' to a shared neighborhood app, and the 15-second clip was our entire conversation, clear as day. He didn't mean anything by it; the app just auto-generated it. But hearing our private talk played back from a camera I forgot was even there felt like a real violation. It's made me question the whole 'smart home' trade-off. Where's the line between security and just surveilling daily life? Has anyone else had a moment where a device meant for safety crossed into feeling invasive?

Totally get that creepy feeling. @fiona_clark has the right idea adjusting the settings. I'd be furious if my chat got posted online. Makes you wonder who else can hear you.

That exact thing happened with my cousin and my own porch camera last fall. I ended up turning off the audio recording feature completely, and I set the motion zones to only cover my actual doorstep, not the sidewalk. It felt like a good middle ground. Having that playback of a normal chat was just too weird, even from my own device.
