PSA: I read that the average person gets tracked by about 40 data brokers, and I finally checked mine
I was poking around a privacy site last month and saw a stat that the typical person shows up in around 40 data broker files, and for some folks it's way more than that. That number sat with me because back in the day the phone book just had your name and address, and you could ask to be left out of it. I put in my info on a removal site and sure enough, a bunch of old addresses and a couple phone numbers popped up, some from a place I lived in Boise back in 2011. It took me maybe three evenings to send out the opt outs, and a few of them made me mail a paper form, which felt silly. I'm not sure it did much good in the long run though. Has anyone here actually gotten their count down and kept it there, or do they just come right back?
