PSA: My smart lock let a repair guy in without my okay last month

I have a Yale Assure lock that I set to give a one time code to my building's maintenance team for a scheduled fix. They sent a different person who used the old code from a job six months ago, and it still worked. I had to call the company and ask why codes don't expire after use, and they said it's a 'feature' for convenience. Isn't the whole point of these things to control access?

That "feature for convenience" sounds more like a bug that lets strangers in...

But what if the real issue isnt the code itself, but the fact these locks probably log every single attempt? Youd know who tried 1-2-3-4 and when. Thats more useful than a deadbolt in court or to figure out if your kid let their friend in while you were gone. The convenience angle is cover for giving landlords and Airbnb hosts your whole comings and goings.

Wait, they said the default code for those smart locks was just 1-2-3-4? That's like leaving your house key under the welcome mat.
