Started covering my laptop camera with a sticker after a weird thing at a Denver cafe last month
So last month I was at this coffee shop in Denver working on some charts for my shift report, and this guy two tables over kept glancing at my screen. I didn't think much of it until I got up to grab a napkin and noticed he had his phone angled toward me like he was recording. I sat back down and just closed my laptop, but it got me thinking about how much stuff I leave open in public. The next day I cut a little square of duct tape and stuck it over my webcam, which felt dumb at first. But then I checked my settings and saw that like 6 apps had permission to use my camera whenever they wanted. I turned off almost all of them and now I also use a cheap privacy screen so people can't read my screen from the side. Anyone else have a moment like this that made you change how you use your laptop in public?
Had the same wake up call at a library of all places. Some dude kept leaning over like he was trying to read my emails and I finally just shut the whole thing and left. Went home that night and counted something like 8 apps with camera access and turned every single one off except the one I actually use for video calls. Also grabbed one of those cheap slide covers for the webcam so I'm not peeling tape residue off the lens every few months. That privacy screen move is smart too, never even thought about people reading over my shoulder from the side.
