Swapped my Google Photos for a local NAS setup last month

I got tired of Google scanning my vacation pics for ads so I grabbed a used Synology DS218j off Facebook for $80. It took a weekend to set up but now I can access everything remotely without any cloud snooping. Anyone else ditch a big tech service for a home server thing?

took a weekend" - lol yeah my brother spent like 3 hours just fighting with the mobile app to find his photos from last year.
