TIL my fitness tracker was sharing my heartbeat data with my gym's app

Found out last Tuesday when I logged into the gym's app to book a class. There it was, my resting heart rate for the past 3 weeks, synced automatically through some partnership I never agreed to. I checked the fine print from when I joined in March 2022, buried on page 6. Nobody at the front desk even knew it was happening. I get that the gym wants to tailor programs, but my pulse is not their business. I killed the integration and now I have to manually disconnect it every time my watch updates. Has anyone else caught a totally unexpected data handoff like this, and did you find a way to stop it for good?
