Finally got my basement workbench built after 3 years of putting it off

Last weekend I finished a 6 foot workbench in my basement using leftover 2x4s and plywood from when I framed a wall in 2021. I measured wrong twice and had to recut the top piece both times. Spent about $14 on new screws and some lag bolts since the scrap wood was free. Has anyone else built one with a simple shelf underneath or did you go with drawers?

Plywood shelf is way better than drawers for holding heavy tools.

My buddy Mark tried to use drawers for his workshop and ended up with a busted sliding mechanism after putting a router on it. He switched to a 3/4 inch plywood shelf from Lowe's and hasn't looked back since. Dead simple and it holds his entire drill collection without sagging. I gotta say @amy_sanchez, that's the way to go if you're hauling around heavy gear.

Gotta laugh at the guy trying to put a router on a drawer, that's just asking for trouble. I went with a simple shelf too and yeah, it's boring but it's not collapsing under a belt sander. Drawers look cool until you realize you're basically building a dresser for hammers. Sometimes the dumbest, most basic solution is the right one.
