Heard a neighbor say 'the inspector won't look at the attic' when they were adding new wiring. That's a dangerous assumption.

That line about the inspector not looking in the attic is way too common. My cousin had a house fire years back that started from some messed up DIY wiring up there. The previous owner just assumed no one would ever check it, and they were right until it was too late. It's scary how many people think out of sight means out of mind with electrical work.

Exactly, and it's not just wiring. People hide all sorts of junk up there. Saw a place where someone stored old paint cans and oily rags right next to a light fixture. That's basically a fire waiting to happen, and no inspector is going to move all that stuff to look.

Ever wonder why attics are such a mess? Like @gonzalez.vera said, folks treat them like a magic closet where problems disappear. I'm guilty of shoving a box of old Christmas lights up there and just hoping for the best.
