I was putting my drill bits back in the case all wrong for years

I was just grabbing them and jamming them into the foam slots, any which way. Then last month, I was helping my neighbor put up a shelf and he asked to borrow a 3/8 bit. I fumbled for a full minute trying to find it. He said, 'You know they have the size printed right on the shank, right? Line them up in order.' I felt like an idiot. I spent ten minutes that night pulling all my bits out and putting them back smallest to biggest. Now I can find the right one in two seconds. Does anyone else have a simple tool organization trick that seems obvious now?

Oh man, the same thing happened with my socket set. Just tossed them in the tray. Total mess. Then I saw a picture online where someone had laid them out in rows by drive size. Blew my mind. Spent an afternoon sorting them all. Now everything has a spot. Saves so much time.

Feel your pain, @julia_jones72. That moment of finding a good system is so satisfying. Makes the whole job easier from then on.

Isn't it funny how something that simple can make such a difference? I had the same thing with my drill bits, just tossing them in a coffee can for years. Finally got a little case with slots and it feels like a whole new world.
