Just realized my paint roller nap was way too thick for smooth walls

I was painting my living room last weekend and kept getting this weird orange peel texture I hated. After about 3 hours of frustration I finally looked up the roller nap numbers on a DIY forum. Turns out you're supposed to use a 3/8 inch nap for smooth drywall, not the 1/2 inch I grabbed from my garage. The guy at the hardware store never mentioned it when I bought the paint. Spent another hour re-rolling half the wall and it came out buttery smooth. Anyone else make this dumb mistake on their first big paint job?

Oh man, the roller nap thing got me too on my first go-round. It's funny how one tiny detail you never think about can completely ruin the finish. I've noticed that pattern in a lot of home projects, you know? The smallest thing that nobody tells you about ends up being the reason it looks bad. Like picking the wrong paint sheen for a bathroom or forgetting to prime glossy trim (guilty). It makes you realize how much hidden knowledge goes into stuff that looks simple from the outside.
