My $15 thrift store paint sprayer actually worked great

Honestly, I found a beat-up Wagner paint sprayer at a Goodwill in Portland for $15 and figured I'd waste the money. Spent a Saturday cleaning it up and testing it on some old fence boards in my backyard. Ngl, after 3 coats on my living room walls it gave me a way smoother finish than any roller I've ever used. Has anyone else had luck with cheap secondhand tools that surprised them?

Three years ago I woulda laughed at the idea of a thrift store sprayer working on anything bigger than a birdhouse. But last spring I grabbed an old Graco handheld for like 12 bucks at a garage sale, cleaned the gun with some mineral spirits and a toothbrush, and used it to paint my whole shed in an afternoon. It sputtered a bit on the second coat but the finish was way better than I expected, honestly changed my mind about cheap beat-up tools.

A few years ago I would have told you that buying a used paint sprayer from a thrift store was just throwing money away. But after reading what @elizabeth_bailey26 said about her Graco experience, I finally tried it myself with an old Wagner I found. That machine cleaned up better than I expected and put down a nice even coat on my bathroom ceiling. It definitely changed my mind about secondhand tools, that is for sure.
