My neighbor insisted I needed to back-roll my paint after cutting in, and after trying it on my living room trim, I have to admit he was completely right.
I fought him on it for months, but the finish is so much smoother with no visible lap marks, so has anyone else found a weird painting tip that actually worked?

My uncle who was a painter for thirty years taught me to back-roll the walls, not the trim. For trim, he always said a good angled brush and not overworking the paint was the real trick. Rolling trim can leave a texture that doesn't match the smooth brush finish. Maybe your neighbor's tip works for your specific paint, but it goes against every pro lesson I've ever had.
