Shelled out $400 for a whole-house surge protector after my neighbor's AC fried in a storm
Wired it myself in an hour last spring and last week a lightning strike near my street took out two TVs on the block but everything in my house was fine. Anyone else go the whole-house route or do you just trust cheap power strips?

My buddy Dave in Tampa dropped $500 on a whole-house unit after reading horror stories online. A storm rolled through last July and his neighbor's flat screen started smoking through the wall outlet. Dave's place was totally fine, not even a flicker. He said it paid for itself in that one night. I'm still using cheap strips myself but he's got me thinking about upgrading.
