The number of people who don't back out their drywall screws is wild

I was helping a friend patch a wall in his apartment and every single screw was driven in so deep it broke the paper face. He said his landlord's handyman 'just screws them in until they stop.' That creates a weak spot and guarantees a crack will form right there. I had to cut out a six inch square around each one to fix it properly. How do so many folks not know you need to leave the screw head just below the surface without tearing the paper?

Is it just a lack of training, or do they think it saves time? That kind of hack job always costs more later.

Probably a bit of both, honestly. My own home repair attempts are proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I've definitely created future work for actual professionals.

Don't you think sometimes a quick fix gets them paid faster rather than a perfect job?
