Am I the only one who thinks hiring out a tiling job is smarter than DIY after my $1800 mistake?
So I tried tiling my bathroom floor in my Cleveland house 3 months ago and it went bad fast. I mixed the thinset too wet because I was rushing, and 2 days later half the tiles were loose and popping up. I spent $400 on tile and tools, then paid a pro $1400 to fix it, so that was $1800 total. Some folks say DIY saves cash and you learn a skill, but others say a messed up tile job costs more in the end. I'm torn because I love doing stuff myself but that was a hard hit. What do you all think, keep trying DIY or just hire out next time?
Wait, the thinset was still wet enough after 2 days that tiles were popping up? That is wild to me. Did you mix it by hand in a bucket or use a drill paddle? I feel like half the people who mess up thinset do it because they add water by eye instead of measuring.
