Caulking gun technique I had backwards for 6 years, a window trim job in Phoenix exposed it

I always pushed the trigger while pulling the gun toward me, figured that was how everyone did it. A buddy watched me work on my back porch last month and asked why I was dragging the bead instead of pushing it ahead of the nozzle. Now I get clean lines on the first pass, no more smearing with my finger. Has anyone else found out they had a basic tool grip backwards for ages?

Wait, is anybody else using the trigger with their pinky and ring finger instead of their index? I switched to that grip years ago for a different reason, arthritis, and it forced me to push the gun ahead naturally because my wrist angles different. The drag versus push thing is just a symptom, the real fix is how you hold the damn tool in the first place.

Dragging the bead" hits different, it's wild how we stick with wrong habits just because nobody ever calls them out.
