Debate: should you paint trim before or after installation? I tried both methods on a single room remodel and got mixed results.
Last month I was finishing up a bedroom in my house and had to install new window and door trim. I decided to do a little experiment: I painted half of the trim before nailing it up and painted the other half after installation. The pre-painted stuff was super clean with no drips on the wall, but I spent way too long masking off the wood from the wall after? The post-install painting was faster overall but I had to touch up a ton of spots where the nail gun splintered the paint. 3 years ago I tried the same thing in my kitchen and pre-painting worked better there because the walls were already textured. What do you guys think is the right call for a smooth drywall wall with no texture?

You ever have a buddy who swears by the pre-paint method? My friend Mike painted all his trim in the garage first, carried it inside, and then accidentally cut a piece too short. Had to repaint a whole new board from scratch.

Paint it after cutting but before installing, less waste that way.
