Father-in-law swore by linseed oil on my deck, now I'm stripping black goo off everything

My father-in-law told me to treat my pressure-treated pine deck with boiled linseed oil back in April. He said it would protect the wood and give it a nice warm tone. I followed his advice and applied two coats over a weekend. Six months later, that oil never fully dried and turned into a sticky black mess that attracts dirt and mildew. I just spent three weekends with a chemical stripper and a pressure washer getting it off. Has anyone else had a bad experience with linseed oil on outdoor wood?

Did you put it on too thick or in direct sun cause that stuff needs thin coats and shade.

Gotta disagree a bit here Joseph_murray8 because I've seen linseed oil do this on decks where people followed every rule to the letter. It just doesn't hold up to UV exposure and moisture the way modern sealants do. That stuff turns into a petri dish once the weather hits it.
