Finally got my bathroom floor tiles level after three tries

I spent all Sunday redoing a little 4x5 foot bathroom floor. First attempt I laid the tiles too quick and they were all wavy. Second time I didn't let the thinset cure long enough before walking on it. Third time I used leveling clips and a 2 foot spirit level on every single tile. Took about 6 hours total but the floor is actually flat now. Anyone else have a project that took way more tries than you expected?

Roll your eyes all you want, but a wavy tile floor in a bathroom isn't some tiny detail - it's a tripping hazard when you're half asleep at 2am trying to pee. You can feel a 1/16" lip with your bare foot and it drives you crazy every single day. Sure, if it's a closet nobody cares. But a bathroom where you're standing barefoot in the morning? That's worth six hours to get dead flat. You can call me dramatic but I've stubbed my toe on worse.

Jumped in with leveling clips myself on my own bathroom floor last year. Saved my bacon after I tried mudding it freehand the first time and ended up with a lip you could trip over. Took me five hours for a space half that size, but walking on a flat floor now makes it all worth it.
