Grandpa's tool shed changed how I hang shelves

My grandfather had this old falling down shed out back in Des Moines. He kept a beat up chalk line from the 60s in there and showed me how to snap a level line before I ever touched a level. I still keep that same chalk line in my bag even though I could buy a laser level for $30. Has anyone else got a hand me down tool that works better than the new stuff?

Did a buddy of yours ever borrow that old chalk line and then pretend he invented leveling shelves? My friend Mike swore by his dad's beat up Stanley level from the 70s until he dropped it on concrete and it was never right again. He finally bought a new one and says it's just not the same.
