The countertop debate ended with me eating ramen for a month

I had to pick between butcher block and quartz for my 12 foot kitchen island, and I went with the wood because it was half the price, like $900 cheaper. Looked amazing for the first week, then my girlfriend set a hot cast iron pan right on it and now there's this permanent white ring shaped burn in the middle. She said sorry but I can't stop staring at it every time I eat breakfast. Anyone else regret going cheap on a surface they use daily, or am I just being dramatic about my dumb mistake?

Wood patina tells stories. Yours is just about a hot pan, not a dumb mistake.
