Thought I'd knock out a backsplash in a weekend - took me 12 days
Cutting tile around outlets and corners ate up way more time than I planned, and my miters were looking rough until about the third try. Anyone else have a simple project that snowballed into something way bigger?

Oh man, the outlet cuts are always the killer. I learned the hard way to trace the outlet hole with a piece of cardboard first and then transfer that to the tile. Saves a lot of shaving and cussing. Also for the miters, a cheap tile file is worth its weight in gold for cleaning up rough cuts without going full diamond blade.

Cardboard tracing? That feels like a lot of extra steps for something a careful mark with a pencil can handle. I get that tile is expensive and mistakes sting, but I've made plenty of outlet cuts freehand and only messed up once or twice. The tile file advice is solid though, nobody wants to pay for a diamond blade for a weekend project. Still, I feel like people overthink cuts sometimes, you can always hide a rough edge behind the cover plate anyway.
