Walked through an old hardware store downtown and felt like a time machine
Stopped by Ace Hardware on Main Street yesterday for some paint thinner and ended up wandering the aisles for 20 minutes. They still have the same wooden floorboards from when I was a kid, creaking in all the same spots. Saw a display of those old brass gate hinges that nobody bothers with anymore since everyone uses those cheap zinc ones. The guy behind the counter, must be pushing 75, remembered my dad from back when he bought his first tool belt there in '89. Made me wonder how many of these old school hardware places are still hanging on. Anybody else got a local shop that's barely changed in 30 years?

Huh, that's the thing about those old stores. @coran63 you're right but I think the real trade-off was weight. Those brass hinges weigh twice as much as the new ones. I remember because my dad made me haul a box of them once.
