Watched a neighbor build a deck off the back of his garage with nothing but a circular saw and a chalk line last August and it hit me that I've been overthinking every project for years

He had the whole frame done in 6 hours while I was still measuring twice and watching YouTube videos, so has anyone else realized they're just getting in their own way with all the prep work?

My buddy Gary spent three weekends planning how to build a simple bookshelf, watching woodworking channels and drawing diagrams. He finally just grabbed some plywood and a jigsaw one afternoon and had it done before supper. Said he felt pretty foolish for all the time he wasted getting ready instead of just getting started.

@schmidt.grace's buddy Gary sounds like a real hero, honestly. Spent three weekends planning a bookshelf then just banged it out in an afternoon. I once spent a whole Saturday measuring my kitchen for a spice rack, watched like five videos on joining wood, and then realized I didn't even buy the right wood. Ended up using scrap lumber I found in the alley behind my place and it still turned out fine. Maybe it's just me but I think we all have that one project where we realize we're just overthinking everything.
