Feel like mowing habits totally changed after I moved from Florida to Ohio

I grew up in Tampa where you basically mow every 5 days all year long. Now I'm in Columbus and I'm lucky if I cut grass twice a month during summer dry spells. It's a different world with real seasons and dormant periods. Some neighbors out here scalp their lawns down to dirt in November and I think that's crazy, but they swear it helps in spring. So does anyone else have strong feelings about fall mowing heights or am I overthinking this whole thing?

Man oh man, welcome to the frozen north where grass grows out of spite, not climate. I swear people up here treat their lawns like they're prepping for a desert apocalypse with that November scalping business. You go from mowing every time you blink in Florida to basically being a lawn librarian in Ohio, just watching it sit there. Maybe the neighbors are right and the grass needs a buzz cut to sleep better, but I'm with you, it looks like someone went full shear-happy on a sheep.

Did you ever see that one guy in my old neighborhood who'd mow his lawn in December with a snowblower attachment? @hugobarnes he'd be out there at 7am in 20 degree weather, just scraping the frost off the blades like it was a Zen garden. Looked ridiculous but I kinda respected the commitment.
