I finally saw why my brother talks to plants after one phone call

My brother called me last Tuesday from his greenhouse in Boise, and he said, "You know that tomato plant on the south wall? It's having a bad week." I laughed at first, but then he walked me through how he checks the soil moisture, the leaf color, and even the angle of the stems every single morning before coffee. It hit me that he wasn't being weird, he was just reading the plant's signals better than most people read a spreadsheet at work. I tried his method on my sad basil plant that same night, and I caught a drooping leaf two days before the soil actually dried out. Has anyone else had a family member explain a habit that sounded crazy until you tried it yourself?
