I finally tried counting my steps for a month and 8,000 was the number that changed my mind
I always figured the 10,000 step thing was just marketing, so I never bothered tracking anything. Then my sister gave me her old Fitbit in January and I averaged 8,200 steps a day for four weeks, which sounded like a lot to me. The surprise was that my afternoon slump at work mostly went away on the days I cleared 8,000, and I could see it in my own log. Has anyone else found their real number is lower than the famous one and still feels like it counts?
