My buddy's dad called my chili 'tomato soup with beans'

Last Sunday at a cookout in Austin, my friend Mike's dad took one look at my chili I spent 4 hours on and said that. It hit different because he grew up in Texas and I guess he had a point about it being too thin. Anybody else ever get called out on a dish you thought was perfect?

Honestly a thinner chili just means it pairs better with cornbread for sopping.

Tbh that's actually a solid point though. Thin chili with some good cornbread to dunk in it is comfort food at its finest. Ngl some of those thick chunky chilis get way too heavy after a few bites.
