My dad told me to always keep the receipt for returns and I thought he was old school until last week

I bought a power drill from Lowe's on Monday and the motor died on me after three holes. Luckily I had the receipt in my glovebox and got a full refund no questions asked. Does anyone else save every receipt too or am I just turning into my dad?

Honestly that Lowe's receipt story hits close to home because I had the exact same thing happen with a circular saw from Home Depot last summer. It's wild how those little slips of paper can save you a hundred bucks just by sitting in your glovebox collecting dust. Your dad might be onto something with the old school mindset, because in my experience the stores that give you a hard time are almost always the ones where you lost the receipt.

Haven't you ever had a warranty claim denied because you didn't have the original box? I kept a box from a $30 blender for two years just in case, and when I finally tossed it the week after the warranty expired, the blade snapped off the next day. My wife still brings that up whenever I'm debating whether to throw away a box for a cordless phone.

Dude that's brutal lol. Honestly though most companies don't even ask for the box anymore. I just take a picture of the serial number and receipt on my phone. Saves so much closet space. The only thing I keep boxes for now are my phone and laptop just in case I need to sell them later.
