Pro tip: Going electric vs staying with gas for a lawn mower is a tougher call than I thought

I had to pick between a cordless electric mower and keeping my old gas one. My yard is about a quarter acre, so not huge but not tiny either. I went with the electric after my neighbor let me try his. First few cuts were fine, quiet, no gas smell, but then the battery died with a strip left to do. Took an hour to recharge. On the flip side, the gas mower always started and never ran out of juice, but it was loud and I hated storing fuel. Anyone else make this switch and regret it or love it? What did you do about the battery life issue?

My neighbor swore by buying a second battery, but I’m too cheap for that so I just mow in a checkerboard pattern to stretch the juice. Took me three tries to realize I can’t mow the whole lawn in one go when the grass is wet and thick like a soggy carpet. Honestly, I love the quiet but I’ve accepted I’m now the weirdo who finishes the last strip with manual shears while my dog judges me.

Did you look into getting a second battery? I got a buddy who was in the same boat, quarter acre yard and all. He bought a second battery and a quick charger, said it changed everything because he'd swap 'em out and finish the yard no problem. He stored the spare in his shed on a trickle charger and never looked back, but he did say he still misses the raw power of his old gas mower on thick spring grass.
