Spent $450 on a dehumidifier for my basement and it saved my drywall

Last spring I ignored the musty smell down there. Three months later I had mold creeping up the baseboards. The contractor who quoted me the fix said water damage was already spreading behind the walls. Has anyone else caught moisture issues before they turned into a full reno job?

Heard a guy say dehumidifiers are cheaper than mold remediation for sure.

Must be nice to live in a place where you can just plug in a dehumidifier and call it a day... around here the mold laughs at those things and grows right back anyways. Had a buddy spend $200 on one and still had to rip out half his drywall a month later. Guess it depends on if you want to dry the air or cut out the wall... both are cheaper than hiring a mold guy though, that's for sure.
