That $14 thrift store vase cracked after a week but I actually love it more now
I dropped it on the floor at my apartment in Phoenix and a big piece chipped off the rim. Instead of tossing it I sanded down the edges and it looks like this cool imperfect handmade thing now. Has anyone else had a broken item turn into something better?

You said "cool imperfect handmade thing" but is it really handmade if you just broke a factory item and sanded it down? Seems like you're romanticizing an accident. I get that you like the new look but wouldn't a proper handmade vase from a potter have more soul to begin with? You basically took a mistake and called it art. I'm not saying throw it away but let's not pretend a chipped thrift store vase is some unique treasure.

Oh, for crying out loud, @umak89. You're really going to split hairs over the definition of "handmade" while missing the point that bad things happen to good vases sometimes. Yeah, I broke a factory vase and sanded it down to look like a bombed-out cathedral, but that's still more effort than the machine that stamped it out. If I walked into a potter's studio and threw a cup on the wheel, everyone would call it handmade even if it came out looking like a sad potato. So I took a broken thing and gave it a second life, but apparently that's less valid than a lump of clay somebody shaped into a wonky mug. I guess next time I'll just glue the thing back together and call it "art" so you can relax about the semantics.
