The guy at my gym said he trains for the mirror, not the camera, and now I can't stop thinking about it
I was at the gym last Tuesday, the one on 5th and Main in Columbus, just wiping down a bench, and this older guy next to me was talking to his buddy. He said, "I'm not working out for some fitness influencer reel, I'm working out so I can pick up my grandkid without throwing my back out." That hit me way harder than I expected. I've been doing 3 sets of 10 on the leg press for like 6 months, mostly because I saw a clip of some guy doing it in a tank top. But I can't even carry my own groceries up the stairs without huffing. So last week I switched to farmer's carries with the 40 pound dumbbells twice a week. It's boring and no one's filming it. But I actually helped my neighbor move a couch on Sunday and didn't feel like I was dying. Has anyone else changed their whole workout because of one random comment they overheard?
