Warning: my 5 gallon bucket lid trick was actually trapping moisture this whole time
I've been using those snap on lids to mix paint for years, thought they were airtight and safe. Last week I opened a bucket from March and the paint had this weird skin and rust spots on the inside rim. Anyone else get caught off guard by lids that look sealed but aren't, or is it just me?

Wait, so is the gasket actually sealing tight when you first snap it on, or does it feel snug but still let air crawl in over time? That's the part that gets me, because I've had buckets where the lid pops on with a satisfying click and I swear it's solid. But then you get that rust line, which means moisture is getting in somehow, right? Did you check if the rim was perfectly clean before you sealed it, because even a tiny speck of dried paint can break the seal and turn your "airtight" setup into a slow leak.
