Why does no one ever put the shopping cart back at Aldi?

I was at Aldi on 42nd street yesterday. Watched a guy unload his groceries, then just left the cart in the middle of the lot. Rolling into a parked car. Like you have to put a quarter in to get it out. That's the whole point. Do other people see this all the time or just me?

Oh man, I'm the guy who returns the cart but then spends five minutes trying to get my quarter back out of the slot (I swear those things are designed to trap your fingers).

C'mon, "trap your fingers"? It's just a little spring mechanism. You slide it out, it pops, you grab it. Takes like ten seconds max.
