Can we talk about spending 3 hours trying to locate a missing dimension on a set of plans?

I stared at a staircase detail for what felt like forever until my coworker glanced over and pointed out the dimension was hiding in a note buried in the corner of the sheet, has anyone else had a detail just disappear into the margins like that?

Hold on, is hunting down a dimension for three hours really that big of a deal? I mean, yeah it's annoying but stuff like this happens all the time on plans. You probably walked past it ten times before your buddy spotted it, we've all done that. It's just part of reading drawings, you gotta flip through every note and callout eventually. Not saying it's fun, but calling it a "crisis" feels like a stretch when you could have just moved on and come back to it later.

Jesse says "it happens all the time on plans" like that makes it okay, but that's exactly the problem. When critical dimensions get buried in a note in the margins instead of being clearly marked on the actual detail, we're talking about a basic failure in how the drawing is organized. Three hours is a lot of time on a project, especially when you multiply that across everyone who has to touch those plans. It's not about making a big deal out of one little annoyance, it's about the fact that sloppy drafting practices waste real time and money. We should expect better from the people producing these documents.
