I dropped $300 on a proper drafting lamp and it changed my whole workflow
I was using a cheap desk lamp from a big box store for years, squinting at my screen and paper plans. The new lamp has a daylight bulb and a fully adjustable arm that can get right over my board. It cut my eye strain in half and I'm not making as many small mistakes on my line work. What other gear upgrades have made a real difference for you guys?

My old dorm room lamp cost ten bucks and never gave me issues. Good light is just good light, and a fancy arm doesn't make your hand steadier. Sometimes you just get used to new stuff and blame the old gear.

My buddy's cheap lamp started a small fire last week, so maybe good light isn't just good light.

Started a small fire" is the part that got me. You're just sitting there and your lamp decides to become a hazard? That's not just a cheap lamp, that's a safety recall waiting to happen. A ten dollar lamp is fine until it isn't, and then you're out way more than three hundred bucks. Good light matters, but not burning your place down matters more.
