Just hit 500 layers in a single drawing file, which feels insane

It's for a massive industrial plant layout, and my CAD software started lagging like crazy around layer 350. Honestly thought I'd have to split it into multiple files way before this. Anyone else pushed their software this hard on a complex project?

Been there. Try freezing the layers you aren't actively working on, it saves a ton of memory. Saved my last project from crashing.

Oh man, my buddy's computer kept dying until he did exactly that. It was a total game changer for his workflow.

Yeah, I read a blog post from a civil engineer who said they got up to 800 layers on a highway interchange project. They had to start a strict naming system, like "Drainage_Existing_Pipe" and "Drainage_Proposed_Pipe", just to keep track. The article said purging unused blocks and linetypes every few days was the only thing that kept it from crashing. It sounds like a total nightmare to manage.
