My 2D drawing habit finally broke after a 3D clash report

For 8 years I did everything in flat CAD, just lines and layers, never touched the 3D model even when the software could do it. Last month a plumber's pipe ran straight through a steel beam on the shop drawings because I missed the clash on the 2D overlay. The GC called me at 7am in Cleveland and said, 'Did you even look at the model?' That stung. So I started building the model first and pulling my 2D views straight from it, even for simple details. It took me about 2 weeks to get smooth, but now I catch problems on my own screen before the contractor ever sees them. Has anyone else made the switch late in their career and found the extra setup time worth it in the end?
