My old plotter ate a 40-hour set of Mylar drawings yesterday

I've been at this since the late 90s and we used to babysit those big HP plotters like they were newborns, but yesterday my 2008 model just started grinding and shredded the whole roll before I could hit stop. Cost me a full day of re-plotting and a $60 roll of film, plus the smell of burnt plastic still hangs in my shop. Is anyone else still running ancient hardware out of stubbornness, or am I the last one holding onto this dinosaur?

I had a 1999 HP 750C that would just decide to eat a corner of the sheet if you looked at it wrong, but it never got a full roll drop on me. Forty hours of plotting gone in ten seconds flat, plus the burnt plastic smell. That's the kind of thing that makes you stand there staring at the machine with your coffee going cold. I feel for you on the film cost too, that stuff isn't cheap anymore. I'm still running a 2005 model myself, but I got a spare parts unit off Craigslist years ago just in case she finally gives up.
