My supervisor caught me using a faded drafting template last Thursday

I was working on a set of floor plans for a small office build-out downtown and grabbed my old template for circles. My supervisor walked over and said 'that thing is worn out, you're off by a 32nd on every mark'. He handed me a fresh one and showed me how to check the edges for wear. Do you guys replace your templates regularly or just use them until they fall apart?

And here I thought a worn template just added character to my drawings, like a vintage effect for blueprints. Pretty sure my supervisor would have let me keep using it if I promised to add an extra 32nd on every measurement just to balance things out. Guess I'll start checking my edges for wear now, right after I check my coffee mug for cracks and my patience for tolerance levels.

Nah, I'd keep using the old one until the lines look like a toddler drew them. If the drawing comes out a little crooked, that's just character, right? Your supervisor probably needed something to feel important about that day.
