Overheard a guy at the supply house say he drafts everything in pen first, no computer

Was picking up some rolls of vellum yesterday and this older dude next to me was telling the cashier he still does all his initial layouts with a pencil and ruler before even touching CAD. Said it helps him catch mistakes before they cost time. Got me thinking, maybe I lean too hard on the software to save me. Any of you old school guys still rough it out on paper first?

@the_susan probably makes her new guys draw a floor plan with a crayon before they even get to touch a mouse, right? Honestly, I half expect that old timer to whip out a slide rule next time I see him. Show me the math on paper first, he says, as if I haven't been hitting undo five times a minute like it's going out of style. But hey, maybe he's onto something - my last project that I did completely on CAD ended up with a wall in the wrong spot, and a ruler wouldn't have saved that disaster.

Did your friend ever tell you about the time his old foreman made him redo a whole set of plans because he missed a measurement by 1/16th of an inch? He was all excited about his new CAD program but the boss said 'nope, show me the math on paper first.' Ended up catching like 3 errors in the first ten minutes of plotting it out by hand. Kinda makes you wonder if the old guys had a point about slowing down to speed up.
