Rant: Lost a full day in Dayton to a contractor's sloppy field notes

Last Thursday I drove 90 miles to Dayton to verify a site for a rebar layout. The field notes from the subcontractor had the column grid shifted two feet on the east side, so I redrew everything on site. By the time I got back to my desk, the office had emailed three revisions based on those bad numbers. I spent Friday morning rechecking every dimension and had to reissue 14 sheets. Anyone else dealing with hand-off notes that are more fiction than fact, or is it just my luck with this crew?

Notice the same pattern everywhere these days. Went to a local mechanic last month, he wrote down "front brakes" but actually did the rear ones because his notes got mixed up with another car. People rush the paper trail, figure they'll remember, then nobody can untangle the mess later. Your extra day in Dayton just proves that sloppy notes cost way more than the ten minutes it takes to write them down right the first time.
