Rant: New drafters keep ignoring paper grain direction like it doesn't matter

A kid in my office tried to pull a 40x60 print across the grain on our big plotter last Thursday and it crinkled into a mess before I could stop him. That's the 3rd time this month I've watched someone waste materials because they didn't check the roll orientation first. How do you guys get rookies to take this stuff seriously without coming off like a jerk?

Totally get the frustration. I used to be the one eyeballing roll direction and thinking it didn't matter that much until I watched a colleague ruin a massive print on a deadline. Seeing that mess in person changed my mind real quick. Now I just gently remind them and show them the crinkled demo paper as a "see this? don't let this be you.

@wendy_bell83 60% of the time it saves material. That print mess was user error, not roll direction.
