Showerthought: setting my torque wrench to click at a specific angle instead of ft-lbs completely changed how my aluminum extrusions fit.
Was fighting with a wobbly frame for a drafting table project for 3 days, figured I'd try the angle method from an old machinist forum, and now the joints line up perfect every time - anyone else ditch standard torque specs for tricky materials?

Did you torque to the plastic deformation zone or just the snug plus a 90? I started doing that on bike parts after stripping one too many aluminum bolt holes and it works way better than chasing a ft-lb number on soft metal.

Snug plus a 90 worked great for me on aluminum parts too. I started doing it after a similar stripped hole on a derailleur hanger - the torque wrench felt weird on soft metal and plastic deformation is real. Now I just get it hand tight with a short Allen key then give it that extra 90 degrees and it holds perfect every time.
