That Friday in Akron where every dimension I called out was wrong by an eighth

I was laying out a 30-unit apartment complex on a tight deadline and my brain just kept slipping numbers from the field notes. I caught it after the third wall was already framed and had to redo the whole layout. Has anyone else had a day where your numbers just stop making sense?

I actually read this article in Fine Homebuilding a while back about a guy who had to tear out three trusses because he transposed two numbers in his header span calculations. It stuck with me because I've done the exact same thing more times than I care to admit. There's something about being under a hard deadline that makes your eyes and your brain fight each other on the page. I started using a different colored pen for each dimension callout after that, it helps my eyes track better when I'm reading back through my notes.

Three trusses is brutal, would've cost him a pretty penny. Did that article mention if he was using a calculator or just doing it on paper when he flipped the numbers?
