That time a master drafter told me to ignore the architect's dimensions on a fire station plan
Old timer named Phil said 'the architect's numbers are just suggestions, layout the pipe runs yourself.' Ended up saving 60 feet of ductwork and the inspector said it was the best coordination he'd seen in 10 years. Has anyone else had a vet drafter give advice that sounded crazy but worked perfectly?

Respectfully, @anderson.gavin, builders need those numbers too for load calculations.

Phil wasn't wrong. Architects draw what looks good on paper, not what actually works in the field. I had a similar deal where a senior guy told me to ignore the ceiling height on the drawings and just run my conduit based on the actual beams we could see. Saved me a ton of rework when we realized the architect's clearance didn't exist. Sometimes you gotta trust the old hands who've crawled through enough attics to know better.
