Unpopular opinion: I wasted $150 on a fancy laser level that barely works better than my old string line on sunny days in Denver
Spent 3 hours trying to calibrate it on a framing job before giving up and pulling out the chalk line, so has anyone else had better luck with cheap laser levels or am I just doing something wrong?

Fair point on the batteries, but honestly the cheap lasers I've tried were way worse. There's a middle ground somewhere - maybe a Bosch or something in the $60 range that doesn't need a PhD to set up. Chalk line still beats anything on a bright day though.

Yeah but @robinson.jake's point about batteries is legit though, string line never lets you down. My question is why did you drop $150 on a laser level for framing work in Denver? That's like buying a Ferrari to drive on a dirt road. The cheap ones from Harbor Freight are hit or miss but I've had decent luck with a $40 one that just does basic horizontal lines. No auto-leveling nonsense to mess up. What kind of work are you doing that needs a laser instead of a string line anyway? Is it mostly interior stuff where the light isn't washing everything out?
